Elegant rock walls surround planting beds

Dramatic entryway
Designers: Allison Rani Moore and Santa Fe Permaculture

Elegant rock walls and exuberant planting beds define this dramatic entryway. Carefully planned
water elements such as this re-circulating water fountain serves as a focal point for both birds and people.

Plants add texture and movement to a garden as well as color. Different species of plants
attract and sustain wildlife, one tenant in permaculture design.

The first phase of the landscape design plan includes the hardscape or the
"bones" of the landscape - coyote fencing, flagstone patios and stepping stones, rock walls,
outdoor fireplaces, bancos, arbor and water-harvesting system.

A cottage garden traditionally grew a combination of herbs, ornamentals and edibles all within a
couple steps of the kitchen door. This garden features a mix of plants suited to Santa Fe’s climate,
including lavender and yarrow. Note the yellow pear tomatoes in St. Francis’s basket.
